  • Overview and Responsibilities

    The Human Resources Intern is a part-time, non-exempt, position located in the corporate headquarters office in Baton Rouge, LA. This position provides administrative support to the Human Resources Department for general personnel matters and payroll processing.  The work schedule is 20 hours per week.  This position reports to the Human Resources Manager.  Incumbent into this position will work under close supervision and will follow mainly pre-established guidelines that are clerical in nature.  While this position is entry level and mostly involves clerical duties, it is a great opportunity to be exposed to the many functions of a Human Resources department from benefits and payroll to employee relations, employment law, recruiting and compensation. Job responsibilities are as follows:


    • Assists with Pre-Employment Screening processing, tracking and correspondence to hiring managers.
    • Data entry of employee and payroll information into ADP Payroll system among other various data entry duties.
    • Files papers and documents into appropriate employee files.
    • Recurring weekly tasks include sending exit questionnaire link to each departing employee and sending new hire survey link to each new hire. 
    • Responsible for review and summary of new hire survey results.
    • Monitors the company’s Glassdoor and Indeed employee reviews, coordinates the appropriate company-approved response.
    • Answering phones, and checking voicemail of HR Manager.
    • Maintains the links and arrangement of information on the HR page of the company intranet.
    • Follow-up with Branch Managers and Employees for needed items: New hire documents, Acknowledgements to policy updates, etc.
    • Reconciles benefit invoices and remits them to Accounts Payable for timely payment (MetLife, Blue Cross, other benefit carrier invoices.)
    • Makes copies, faxes and scans documents and performs other clerical functions.
    • Assists with processing of new hires, terminations, and changes of employment status
    • Other duties and special projects as assigned; occasionally may even assist other departments as needed.


    • Enrolled in an Associate or Bachelor Degree program, preferably with a Human Resources Management concentration.
    • Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel (Very frequent use of Excel.)
    • Excellent communication, inter-personal, and writing skills. (We spend a lot of time on the phone or utilizing E-mail to communicate with employees since they are spread over the Southeast US and are not in our office to speak to face-to-face.)
    • Very detail-oriented, as there is a large amount of data entry required of this position.  Incumbent must demonstrate accuracy and thoroughness, monitoring own work to ensure quality.
    • Great with follow-up and can utilize ticklers or other reminders to make sure recurring duties are completed timely.
