  • Overview and Responsibilities

    We are seeking an entry-level Attorney for our Legal & Compliance Department. This role will work with other attorneys and the Compliance team to develop subject matter expertise in state-specific and federal laws and regulations related to lending, marketing, collections and privacy & data for one or more assigned states of our 8 states (LA, MS, AL, GA, TN, SC, KY, TX). Other focus areas will be contract review/revision, tracking new legislation, creation and revision of internal policies & procedures for compliance, and government relations. Job responsibilities are as follows:


    • Analyze and report on consumer finance related regulatory, compliance, and legal issues
    • Develop and maintain subject matter expertise in assigned areas and take a lead role in tracking and reporting on all development in those areas (i.e., state-specific lending laws and regulations, federal and state marketing laws and regulations, federal and state collections laws and regulations, federal and state privacy and data laws and regulations, etc.)
    • Track relevant legislation during various states legislative sessions
    • Draft, review, revise, and implement internal policies and procedures in order to maintain compliance with new and evolving legislation and regulation, and assist in communicating changes to branch team members
    • Coordinate and implement revisions to form documents to maintain compliance with new or amended regulations and legislation
    • Review and revise agreements, contracts, and other legal documents contemplated between the Company and external parties
    • Communicate and negotiate effectively with external parties (regulators, external counsel, vendors, etc.), creating relations of trust
    • Assist with regular communications with executive management, including assisting with formal presentations and proposals, regarding policy and business decisions


    • Active State Bar membership
    • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
    • Strong attention to detail and accuracy skills
    • Effective organizational, multi-tasking, and prioritizing skills
    • Ability to adapt to rapidly changing priorities
    • Must have initiative and the ability to think independently
    • Ability to work independently and with a team
    • Practical problem-solving skills to resolve legal, compliance and business issues
    • Ability to communicate effectively internally and externally to all levels of knowledge, experience and proficiency
    • Excellent computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.
    • Familiarity with financial and lending laws and regulations (TILA, FCRA, GLBA, FDCPA, TCPA, etc.) is desired
    • An interest in government relations work would be a plus
